Turned Down a Job Offer

I turned down an offer of a job in Bethesda, Maryland. I spoke to the manager and then interview with a lady, I think she was the assistant manager/supervisor. I got a salary quote from her that was several thousand more than the offer the manager ultimately extended to me. I was very disappointed and felt that I was being low-balled because he thought he could. So I turned the position down. They had five openings at the moment.

I just sent off an application for a job in Sacramento, California. The salary is very nice, better than the position in Maryland (the higher salary offer) and the cost of living is much less expensive than the DC area according to all information that I have researched. They also seem to have long-standing openings so we'll see how this goes. I know that there is a lot of openings in my field, but I get nervous when there are many openings or openings that remain open for a long time.

Other than that, I feel very thanksful this holiday weekend, that I am solid financial ground whatever I decide to do. Choosing a career in health care provides a lot of stability in very uncertain times.

    Good luck on your job hunting. Sacramento is a nice place to live, especially, if you like outdoor stuff, like camping, hiking, skiing, etc. I'm not much of an outdoor person, but even I appreciate so many outdoor opportunities Sac has to offer. Let us know how it goes.

    I loved living in the DC area! That's too bad they were playing games with the salary.

    Yes, the cost of living is dramatically lower these days. MEdian home price just dropped below $200k (For the first time since 2002?). & rents have always been pretty cheap compared to rest of Cali.

    I was going to say Sacramento is not known for jobs (As a warning), but it is known for healthcare jobs. So I think it could be a good fit for you (financially anyway). Now that I see what your profession is.

    Health care is a great field to be in right now, especially with all the baby boomers like me getting older but living longer.

    I am in healthcare and feel very lucky too. I had a college student interview me for a paper she was writing and when she asked me if I would make the same decision to become a nurse again I said "absolutely!" Not just for the money but for the chance to be so intimately involved in helping people when they need you the most and still getting paid for it.
