Shady Furniture Sales? ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ ๐Ÿช‘

August 11th, 2024 at 02:34 am

So are furniture salespeople as shady as car salespeople? Because I've never had a car salesman add on so much, or upgrade my selections like I had happen to me today. I didn't realize that I needed to scrutinize my receipt so closely. If I had I would turned right around. I'm really upset as it adds up to over $700 in overcharges by adding furniture protection contracts & upgrading a sofa from what I selected in store.  This isn't my first time purchasing furniture. I've never had anyone automatically add the furniture protection. I've always been asked prior. I will be there as soon as they open tomorrow & if I get any push back I will cancel my entire order & go to another store.

Yikes. And hope that they don't stick you with a restocking fee if it turns out you don't like it when it arrives. That happened to me when I bought my house, which was built in 1915. It turned out that there was no way to get the sofa I purchased (which would have fit the ROOM fine) in the doors, and I wasn't about to let them take out the original stain glass window to fit it in that way, so I rejected the purchase--and they retained $250 as a restocking fee. 20 years ago so it's probably higher now. I'd never heard of such a thing before.

Wow. I would be really ticked off. If they try to stick you with a restocking fee, tell them you're going to file a complaint with the attorney general. That should make them think twice.

I did speak to the young lady & maybe the lack of communication has to do with her being so young. Or at least she seems young to me. While I only have 48 hours to change my furniture order, I have 90 days after delivery to cancel the furniture service contract. So I will at least keep it until then just in case. After then if I cancel it the cost is prorated.

And yes, there is a restocking fee, you only get back 80% of the cost so they essentially charge you 20% if you don't like it. But I've been looking at the sofa & dining room set since I signed my contract to build back in March so I'm almost positive that it's what I want. I've looked at the furniture in the showroom several times. What I wasn't sure about was the living room tables shown with the sofas. When I went back yesterday I decided to switch them out for something less heavy. The tables shown with the set both look & feel heavy. I switched from a silver set to a bronze set, but I think it will still fit in with the color scheme of my home. The warm gray on the walls lets me go either cooler or warmer on colors, which I appreciate it. The rug has both gray and gold, and the painting I bought for the area has both gray & gold.

I have never heard of furniture protection, but then again, it's been so long since I've bought anything. But wow, I'd be ticked off royally too.

I never heard of it either. But it's been a long time and the last time was at macys so I guess they don't normally do that since they are big department store?
