Got tested for COVID-19

May 7th, 2020 at 01:13 am

I saw a posting for a part-time position at a private laboratory with great pay so I applied. I chatted with one of the administrators & she called back to ask me to be tested for COVID-19 before they brought me in for an interview. So I went by today & got my NP swab. Dear God, that was the worst feeling! At first it was just very uncomfortable, then I was uncontrollably coughing & dry heaving, with tears running down my face. I can see why people refuse to be re-tested. I get my results in the morning before my interview. If I’m positive, I’m definitely one of the asymptomatic carriers.

Good luck getting the job! I just saw a video of the test, and prefer never to have that experience. Any thoughts if they could come up with a more humane way to test?

Good luck on the job! I've heard people being interviewed who have had the test and they also described it as being really bad.

There are alternate collection techniques including a non-induced sputum & I believe a throat swab, but the NP swab is the preferred specimen.

    Good luck with the job.

It's so variable who is able to get tested. Around here, only symptomatic patients can be tested. We can't even get ourselves (front line health care workers) tested unless we develop symptoms even though we've all been exposed multiple times.

I don't like the looks of that test -- my nose is very sensitive, anyway. I do hope that I have had it already, but there will be no way to know until I can get an antibody test.

My COVID-19 was negative. I had my interview this morning. Looks like they are moving forward with bringing me on. I’m very excited! We didn’t even talk about pay. I thought about it, but didn’t know how to bring it up. Why does it seem awkward to discuss money when that’s the reason we go to work? I hope since I don’t need the benefits offered that they can bring me on higher in their pay scale. Even the lowest end of the pay scale would be more than I’m making now at my PRN job.
