Car Trouble

February 2nd, 2026 at 02:21 am

My 2015 Toyota CRV is in the shop & I'm still waiting to hear whether they will repair it or total it out. Sigh. I really wasn't ready to purchase a new car. I was hoping to build back my cash savings for the next couple of years. Thankfully my insurance is paying me as I filed for a collision. I damaged the core. There  is a radiator leak and the condenser needs to be repaired. And due to it running hot I may have permanently killed the engine.

I don't know why there are no warning lights when your car runs hot. That's crazy! Apparebtly newer cars have this feature, but you would think it would be old technology. Because who is watching the temperature on the dashboard regularly? I only looked because I smelt something burning when I parked my car in the garage the night prior.

I still have my settlement money & my dad is saying that I will get back money from taxes. Really, that's a miracle. I almost always pay. For the second year in a row I was able to itemize.

Sorry your car might be totaled.

You might get money back in part because they made changes to the tax law mid-year 2025 with the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" that will result in lower taxes for many people; however, they did not change the withholding tables until the beginning of this year. This will result in more people than usual getting a refund (something the Administration hopes will play to its benefit in this midterm election year).

I feel sorry you’re going through this. You might want to try a permanent OBD2 scanner like the BlueDriver or FIXD, which connects via Bluetooth and shows real-time status on your phone. Both have a sleep mode to prevent battery drain, and they can alert you early before issues get worse.

That's too bad about the car. I hope it can be salvaged so you can drive it for a few more years.

I assume you mean the Honda CRV? They are generally very reliable vehicles, so hearing any major repairs is a bit surprising, even if it’s like 10 years old.

Yes, Honda! I drove Toyotas for so many years that I still default to saying Toyota. I even had that I drove a Toyota in one of my pick-up apps until the worker pointed out that I had a Honda, not a Toyota. 😆

That's a shame about the car. Hopefully it works out for the best.
