Vanguard: New Level Unlocked

May 1st, 2026 at 02:22 pm

Today when I logged in to do my monthly net worth blog, I realized that for the first time I surpassed $500k with my Vanguard accounts. I have both a Roth IRA & another small brokerage account. I had not anticipated reaching this level for quite some time, but it means that I qualify for Voyager Select with Vanguard. Also, it doesn't seem like anything changes with this new standing. When you reach $1 million you get access to their trust services, for a fee of course.

I'm so close that this new standing could change next month. I wonder how long you have to stay at this level to be considered Voyager Select? 30 days? Do it come & go daily with your account balance? It doesn't really change anything for my strategies, but it's cool to finally reach that standing. It was a long journey to get from $50k to $500k! Almost 16 years, actually.

– Basic Investor: No minimum
– Voyager: $50,000 – $499,999
– Voyager Select: $500,000 – $999,999
– Flagship: $1 million – $4,999,999
– Flagship Select: $5 million and above

Hmm, interesting. Besides hearing about Admiral shares, I didn't realize they had different tiers of services for different balances. I wonder what else they offer, as you go up the tiers? Either way, congrats!

I've heard of Vanguard, but don't know a lot about it, but it is interesting about the tiers. Hope you continue to do well.

Like Tabs, I wasn't familiar with the service levels, just the Admiral shares.

A Google search revealed: "At $500,000 invest in Vanguard funds you become a Voyager Select customer. The main benefit of this level is that you can get help from Vanguard's financial planners and legal without needing to enroll in PAS. However, they will NOT implement any plan for you - this is just advice.

You also get a dedicated customer service phone number, which should offer more experienced customer service representatives."

Congrats on reaching th next level!

The free financial planning advice and dedicated customer service is a nice bonus! I have this with Fidelity and it is very nice to be able to talk to someone about my finances without any pressure of them trying to sell me something. Definitely take advantage!

Me, too, I've got Admiral shares on most of my funds but not familiar with the tiers. I should have access to the dedicated customer service lines, but not sure I know it. I rarely try to contact them.

Yes, it’s been many years since I’ve contacted Vanguard’s customer service. I think the last time was when I was trying to change my contribution year when I was trying to max out the previous year before April 15th.
