2027 Contribution Limits Forecast

October 3rd, 2026 at 03:00 am

Not yet official, but here they are! Next year is my first year being eligible for catch-up contributions. I remember when 50 felt so very far off...now I'm almost there. It feels like it snuck up on me! It was hard to imagine being able to max out my retirement plans in my 20s yet here I am.

Projected 2027 Retirement Plan Limits
  • 401(k), 403(b), and 457 plan employee deferrals: Projected at $25,500 (up from $24,500 in 2026).
  • Defined contribution total limit (employee + employer): Projected at $75,000 (up from $72,000).
  • Standard catch-up contribution (Ages 50+): Projected at $8,500 (up from $8,000).
  • Special "super" catch-up (Ages 60–63): Projected at $11,750 (up from $11,250).
  • Traditional and Roth IRA contributions: Projected to remain at $7,500 combined.
  • IRA catch-up contribution (Ages 50+): Projected to remain at $1,100.
